Updates about Soufflé’s Visit to the Vet

November 8, 2008 at 10:33 pm (11 Of Them, Diet, Nutrition & Supplements) (, , , , , , , , )

Updates about Soufflé after visiting the vet on 7 November 2008.

Urine no sign of glucose because it’s diluted (thanks to the copious amounts of water he drinks). Results of blood test:
ALT= 70U/L HI
(31-53)
ALKP = 60U/L LO
(70-145)
CREA= 106umol/L
(71-159)
GLU= 10.57mmol/L HI
(4.17-8.06)
TP= 67g/L
(55-72)
UREA= 5.0mmol/L
(3.6-8.6)

His blood sugar is high because he may be stressed by the visit to the vet (not to mentioned that they tried to draw blood from both legs but failed and they had to draw blood from his neck). I would be pretty stressed if I were him.

So vet says that it may be due to stress or another type of diabetes. Anyway, he’s to be in isolation, away from all rabbits to see if it reduces his stress levels and reduces his water intake. I’ve to monitor for two weeks before I can take action. If it’s stress, no problem. Remove the stressors. If not, he’s to be hospitalised and then they’ll run water deprivation test to test his urine when it’s not so diluted. That itself is risky because it can aggravate the real problem. Oh well, I gotta take one step at a time. It’s hard not to worry though. So right now, we still do not know what is causing the problem. *eek*

Poor baby! At least his kidney is okay though he has high blood sugar level and he’s got a fatty liver. He’s kind skinny though.

His diet has gotta be changed… More Timothy Hay, More fresh veggies, and still one tablespoon of pellets a day.

Bought this by accident because I didn’t read that it was for 4 years and above. But never mind… It wouldn’t be so bad if I mix it.

I’m pretty sure the food is the type that controls urine odour. LOL. :P

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Wood

November 1, 2008 at 11:33 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review, Toys) (, )

I also bought this today.

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Wood

Sides..

Base of packaging

Without the packaging.

What’s in it?

VitaVerde Nature Wood for rabbits – Dwarf rabbits can’t wait to get their teeth into the natural apple tree twigs. The gnawing helps to wear down the teeth.
Feeding instructions: put 1 – 2 twigs into your pet’s age every week.

My take? It’s like a treat… or a toy. Something fun for them to chew on and look forward too. Noticed that they like to chew the leaves as well. :)

60g box for $5.89 before discount. So far, all the Vitakraft Vit@Verde products were bought from Pet Lovers Centre.

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Mix

November 1, 2008 at 11:17 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review) (, )

Bought another new thing for them to try today.

It’s Vitakraft Vit@Verde Nature Mix

Back of the pack

I know it’s impossible to read about the contents based on the photo. So here it is. :D

Vitakraft Vit@Verde Nature Mix for rabbits – A mix of several meadow herbs including alfalfa balls, nettles, camomile, red clover, dandelion and marigolds. Rich in protein and mineral nutrients. Echinacea and ribwort promote natural defences and strengthen the immune system. The high crude fibre content promotes optimal digestions and boosts health.
Feeding instructions: Mixed with hay or as a supplement to the daily hay ration.

My take? Definitely better than the Nature 7-day. The concept is similar, just that this pack is solely herbs. It’s 110g and cost $5.89 before discount. :D
