Basically, this blog is about the lives of twelve bunnies – Blueberry, Caramel, Doughnut, Expresso, Funshine, Hugs, Latte, Soufflé, Toffee, Tugs, Twinkers and Wish. They each have their own story to tell.
It all started with two bunnies, Milky and Caramel. What happened was that I bugged him for a rabbit. He refused because we already had a dog, Hugo and a turtle, Wiggy. Eventually, he relented and we went and got Milky. Initally, I chose Caramel, but put her back because she was a female and I wasn’t too fond of having a female rabbit. Her colours attracted me though because she had bits of brown, which was different from the usual black-and-white fur coated animals I had. He chose Milky because Milky had spots that were symmetrical. In the end, we took Milky home. Within hours, he told me that Milky seemed to be looking for his (Milky’s) siblings. That’s when we decided, we’ll get the other rabbit, Caramel.
Caramel was much bigger than Milky then and she was a lot more active. Milky learned his name really fast and was really responsive. However, Milky passed away within a month of us getting him. He had fits and shortly after that, he left us for the rainbow bridge. We were left with Caramel.
Because we felt that Caramel was lonely, we wanted to get a playmate for her. What happened was that a friend said that she wanted to give up her rabbits. We decided to take them but she said that we had to take all 5! We ended up with Tira and Misu (Soufflé, Fudge and Choco’s) parents as well as the three of them – Soufflé, Fudge and Choco. We made the decision to give up Tira and Misu for adoption. So we had Caramel, Soufflé, Fudge and Choco.
Somehow, things didn’t work out smoothly. Fudge and Choco left us. They too had fits as well. We were wondering what was wrong. It didn’t help very much that I was overseas while he was alone in Singapore caring for them.
Nevertheless, we still had Caramel and Soufflé. They were our two survivors! Later on we adopted Latte. Toffee came along soon after.
Four rabbits was enough, so when Ralph and Shareshare was born, we decided to give them up. Now, we thought that we would just have four of them to content with. That’s when I rescued Hugs and Tugs and eventually adopted them. To make our lives more complete, I fostered Funshine and later on adopted her when her adopter returned her.
Blueberry was given up when her previous owner’s newborn son developed allergies. So I took her in. I was told that she was a he, but I later on found out that Blueberry is a girl!
What a pleasent surprise!
Wish and Twinkers joined next. They were two lovely bundles of joy from a friend. She decided to save them from being sent back for breeding.
Doughnut is Blueberry’s younger sister. They are two years apart. Doughnut was given up because her previous owner suffered from a slipped disc and could not care for so many bunnies. So we took Doughnut in.
In January 2010, I adopted Wassant. He’s a local rabbit, rather small in size and has quite a good temperament. I was approached by this girl through a forum in Dec ’09 to adopt him from her as her schedule would be really packed. She wanted to focus on her studies instead. However, things did not work out well with him aa he couls not adapt to being in a multiple bunny household. He was later adopted by a friend’s friend. He now resides as King.
Expresso came along and joined us in late August 2010. She turned six months on 16 September 2010.
She’s a real friendly and trusting bunny. She gets along really well with Hugs and Blueberry. Her favourite pastime is to mimic Blueberry.
Twelve in the family now. Along the way, I fostered Baileys, Cookie and Muffin. They went to good homes and are happy there.
So, from here, through this blog, we will share about the lives of our rabbits – the joy and love that they bring to us.
Hi, nice to meet you !
