A Visit To My Office…

October 13, 2009 at 10:16 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Outings) (, , , )

4 of them visited my office recently. :) I’ll be posting pictures very soon.

I took quite a few pictures with my mobile phone as my camera’s internal memory is full (I keep forgetting to clear) and I didn’t bring the memory stick for the camera. Hee~

Will try to load them ASAP.

Drama From Last Night and Other Pics

October 9, 2009 at 2:50 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling) (, , , , , )

There was a little drama last night.

Tugs and Doughnut were roaming about and I opened Hugs and Blueberry’s cage to get their hay ball out to refill. While I was refilling the hay, Tugs hopped into their cage and a fight ensued. That caught my attention and I managed to get Tugs out of the cage and soothe Hugs and Blueberry. Thankfully, it’s pulling of fur and chasing each other only. NO bites or injuries sustained on either camp. *phew!*

I’m going to be more careful next time. No more letting them meet like that.

I’ve got a picture to post. I’ll post more later when I can. Hehe.

We’ve got a lazy couple here. Hehe. They’re very loving and sweet. They’re really bonded and they get along very well, knowing when to give in and let go. Hehe. They’re perfect together!

Ooops!

April 3, 2009 at 9:57 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Health) (, , , , , )

I admit, it’s been a while since I updated this blog. Am really busy and got caught up with heaps of stuff. :S

So what’s new?

Well, Souffle and Latte got sterilised. YAY~ The procedure was done on 16 March. We’re approaching the 3 week mark soon. Can’t wait seriously. Latte had a little problem because even though the vet used as hypoallergenic materials as possible for the sutures, he still had a reaction which cause inflammation to his left testicle. Under antibiotics and painkillers, it’s not so swollen anymore which is good! :D

I had to force feed Souffle for about a day or two because he wasn’t. Apparently, it happens in bigger/fatter rabbits because the anethesia is still in them and it takes time to get out of their system.

Anyhow, Souffle is okay now. Healing nicely. Latte too. Latte is separated from Toffee because he may get her to chew the affected area but they need to be close together, so they’re just separated by a grill. They get to smell each other and see each other everyday.

Latte is eating more and more. I think soon, he’ll go beyond his 2.03kg mark. Oh yes, I also forgot to mention, Souffle is 2.21kg. Wow! Bunny boy is certainly becoming more and more cuddly. Hee!

Tugs’ New Trick

January 26, 2009 at 1:45 am (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Grooming, Supplies) (, , , , , , , )

Tugs can jump up my bed. *aragh* He better not make it a habit. Especially since it’s a white new year for him. -________________-

In fact, Caramel, Funshines, Hugs and Soufflé are also moulting. I hate it when they all moult at the same time. Now, I’m so tempted to try out the furminator on them (Thanks to advice given) however, I’m hesitating. Waiting for the Birthday Discount month to get because it’ll be more worth it then. Plus I cannot actually decide what size is good since there are 7 of them…

Tugs is eating well again

January 22, 2009 at 3:26 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Health) (, , , , , )

Tugs is eating pretty well again. He’s actually finished 3 handfuls of pellets during the night. It’s like “wow!” I mean, when he was sick, he didn’t even want to eat the pellets. Now I’ve just got to change him over to oxbow. LOL.

Have to reconsistute the pellets for him over the weekend. Not to mention to order more pellets and to check when the bale of hay is arriving. I still have to clear their cages over the weekend as well. Hee~

A Pleasant Surprise

December 26, 2008 at 8:46 am (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling) (, , , , , )

It’s a pleasant surprise to see Funshine get along pretty well with Toffee and Latte considering Funshine went to Toffee & Latte’s territory.

Toffee grooming Funshine. Latte just wants to be in the picture.

3 Happy Rabbits

The girls – Funshine & Toffee

Funshine and Latte snuggling together. Toffee seems a bit left out though.

They look like they’re stoning.

3 Pals

They’re just so cute and adorable. Whatever Toffee and Latte do, Funshine will try to follow. Sure, when they first met, they fought a little. When Funshine visited their cage, there was some scuffles and whatnot but all is good after that. :D

Visit to the Vet

December 15, 2008 at 4:39 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Health) (, , , )

Last Thursday, 11 December 2008, Funshine and Soufflé went to the vet.

Soufflé had a sodium test done. This time, they drew out 0.2ml of blood. Previously, for the blood test, it was 0.4ml of blood. His reading for sodium is 136. The normal range based on medical journals is 138 – 150. So his is considered low. Now, it’s not diabetes nor kidney malfunction as both will result in a high level of sodium reading. So both are out. We’re left with stress which didn’t change when we tried changing the environment for him and all that. So that’s sort of out. Since he’s okay, vet says that 600ml should be okay. I think he’s drinking around 600ml to 800ml a day. Guess if nothing happens, it should be okay. :D

As for Funshine, she went to the vet with a swollen foot. Turns out that the sore hocks resulted in bone infection on her left foot. Now, despite her sore hocks improving, she still had a bone infection. Maybe I should have brought her to the vet earlier. Because we went to the Singapore Botanic Garden, and her foot got caught in between the planks of the benches, it could be the trauma that caused the fracture. Or, the fracture could also be caused by the bone infection. Vet cannot tell which was it that caused the fracture but because it’s a stable fracture and Funshine’s foot is not out of place, there isn’t a need for her to put on a cast that sort of thing.

In the meantime, she’s given antibiotics for the infection and painkillers to cope with the pain. She’s lost weight. When JadeyVCL passed her to me, she was weighed at the vet at 1.57kg. Second visit to the vet at 1.59kg, third visit at 1.7kg. I’m not sure how much she weighed before spaying but she didn’t seem to have lost any weight.

However, since the SBG photoshoot, she’s picking at her food. I hope she does make more of an effort to eat. When we weighed her last week at the vet’s she is just 1.5kg. Poor girl. I hope she continues to eat more though. I cannot afford for her to go into GI stasis. It’ll probably be really tough on her then. Hope that things are looking up for her. Will be posting up the pictures of them at the SBG soon!

Weighed Hugs and Tugs today.

Tugs now weighs 1.45kg, down from 1.6kg which is good since Dr Ling says that he has to lose weight.
Hugs also lost a bit of weight (3g). He’s now 0.97kg.

When drinking water becomes excessive

October 31, 2008 at 3:32 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling, Diet, Nutrition & Supplements) (, , , , , , , , )

I thought I’d write out properly what happened to Soufflé instead of just jumping straight into the story.

Weighing about 1.91kg, Soufflé seems to eat and drink okay, except that his daily water consumption is approximately 1.2litres a day. At first, I thought it may be due to the fact that the weather here in Singapore is warm and humid in the day. Although he sleeps in an air-conditioned room, I thought that it might mean that he’s not cool enough. The lady at one pet shop I visited echoed that sentiment too. That’s why I didn’t think of it as drinking excessively.

Hence I didn’t think so much about the amount of water he consumed each day. I would just top up. Soon, I realised that giving him a 600ml bottle did not seem enough. So I went and got him a 1.1litre bottle, which I still had to refill twice a day.

Needless to say, Soufflé peed a lot too. I wouldn’t have thought that there was anything wrong, after all, Soufflé ate his hay (that intake did increase too) and his pellets without any issues. Veggies and fruits were also welcomed by him. His appetite seemed normal and he had okay coloured pee and the large pelletised poop.

However, the stark difference in the amount of water he drank compared to my other bunnies should be worrying. After all, there wasn’t much to explain why he had to drink so much.

Soufflé stays in the same area as the rest. No reason to say that the area they stay in is particularly warm. Nothing to suggest that the weather is one reason to explain that amount of water he drank.Soufflé doesn’t have a thick coat of fur that would make him hot. Being a local lop, he has only one layer of fur – no undercoat. No reason for him to be that hot to have to keep drinking.

Soufflé’s diet is the same as the rest. Although they get different mixture of hay, the different mix is rotated amongst them and the rest don’t seem to be affected by that. Pellets and veggies and fruits are given the same throughout. Again, nothing to suggest that anything should be out of place.

Soufflé gets his fair share of exercise. Or rather, his fair share of time out of the cage. In fact, he chooses to find a corner to sleep and rest or curl under a chair to snooze instead of scampering around the house. In that sense, he doesn’t seem to exercise more than the rest. That would not amount up to him having to drink that kind of amount of water.

Also, Soufflé doesn’t play with his bottle such that water is everywhere. In addition, Soufflé’s bottle is always in tip top condition whereby it doesn’t leak because we know he drinks a lot, hence we make sure there’s always water for him.

Bascially, there are three main reasons as to why this sort of behaviour could happen. 1. there is something wrong with the kidneys, they are not functioning well such that his body can absorb the water properly so he keeps drinking to make up for what he has passed out, 2. it’s a psychological reason why he wants to drink water and 3. he could be diabetic.

As such, Soufflé has to undergo a blood test to find out exactly what’s making him drink. Since it doesn’t seem to be environmental reason to explain it, we need to find out whether there’s something wrong.

According to the vet, 100mls a day is normal and acceptable for a rabbit that weighs approximately 1.6kg. This does make Soufflé seem like a water barrel.

Come Friday, 7 November 2008, Soufflé will be going for his blood test. On top of that, I’ll have to collect his urine sample as well.

Caramel and her antics

October 30, 2008 at 5:20 pm (11 Of Them, Behaviour, Training & Handling) (, )

Caramel did something to me. I was watching a show on my laptop while sprawled on the floor beside my bed. Caramel was on my bed dashing about when I felt water on me. I wondered why water was spilling.

Guess what happened?

That girl backed to the edge of the bed, lifted her bum outwards and peed on me. The bed is clean – no pee, while I’m wet with her pee at 2.57am in the morning.

MADNESS!
