Large Triangular Litter Pan

October 10, 2009 at 5:40 pm (Accessories & Apparels, Product Review, Supplies)

All of them have had their litter pans upgraded to larger ones. I use two types. One of them is the Marukan MR-314.

Here’s what it looks like:

Full view of the Litter Pan

I know this is blur, but you still can see the grids of the Litter Pan

The add on hooks are taped to the bottom of the Litter Pan when you purchase it. All you need to do is to remove it before you use it.

Product dimensions/measurements:
W395×D245×H225mm

What we like about the MR-314:
It is a lot bigger and deeper compared to the AB Seton (GEX) litter pans and it’s still triangular in shape. It is flexible such that it allows us to choose if we want to secure the pan to the cage/playpen by screwing it to the grids or by hooking it on.

Being bigger in capacity, it means that the litter pan will easily last two rabbits a day or two before we clear the litter pan without overflowing. Bun-buns are less likely to get dirty paws or butt when the litter pan has filled too fast. Also, we can safely put in more layers of newspapers and bedding without worrying about having lesser space in the tray for the poop and still be able to soak up the pee. Also, with a deeper tray, their fur is less likely to stick through the grill onto the pee and poo.

Overall, the litter pan is easy to clean as well. The grill is easy to remove as well for cleaning.

What we didn’t quite like:
The downside about it is that you can’t choose to use the hooks to hook and screw the litter pan to the grids of the cage/playpen at the same time. It’s either one or the other. We’ve got bunnies that like to pull the litter pan, so additional security could help. However, we solved that by drilling holes to allow us to use wires to help secure the pan.

Rated:
4.5/5

Bun-buns using this: Caramel, Soufflé, Latte, Funshine, Toffee, Wish & Twinkers

American Pet Diner Pellets

December 3, 2008 at 1:20 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review) (, )

I bought APD pellets last week…

This is what the pellets look like

I was scooping it out when I realised that there were a lot of pellet-dust!

Look at the amount of dust after I sieved the entire packet!

I weighed the bag of APD pellets before opening it. It was 5lbs. After shaking out all those powder from the pellets, the bag of pellets weighed 4lbs 13oz. And guess what? There is still some dust powder left behind in the bag! Okay, I cannot remove all of the powder but I must say that I did remove a fair bit already.

I’m wondering, there is so much of this dust thingy, is it because the pellets crumbles easily? I’ve never had this sort of issue with Marukan Pellets, and even with the MR-11 which is 3.3kg (more than 5lbs).

So I went to press the ADP pellets. When pressure is added on the pellet, it does not seem to yield to the pressure very visibly. However, when the pressure is released, the pellet seems to start to open up and fall apart. The hay strands can be pretty visible as well. I doubt I’ll buy APD pellets anytime soon.

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Wood

November 1, 2008 at 11:33 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review, Toys) (, )

I also bought this today.

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Wood

Sides..

Base of packaging

Without the packaging.

What’s in it?

VitaVerde Nature Wood for rabbits – Dwarf rabbits can’t wait to get their teeth into the natural apple tree twigs. The gnawing helps to wear down the teeth.
Feeding instructions: put 1 – 2 twigs into your pet’s age every week.

My take? It’s like a treat… or a toy. Something fun for them to chew on and look forward too. Noticed that they like to chew the leaves as well. :)

60g box for $5.89 before discount. So far, all the Vitakraft Vit@Verde products were bought from Pet Lovers Centre.

Vitakraft Vit@Verde – Nature Mix

November 1, 2008 at 11:17 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review) (, )

Bought another new thing for them to try today.

It’s Vitakraft Vit@Verde Nature Mix

Back of the pack

I know it’s impossible to read about the contents based on the photo. So here it is. :D

Vitakraft Vit@Verde Nature Mix for rabbits – A mix of several meadow herbs including alfalfa balls, nettles, camomile, red clover, dandelion and marigolds. Rich in protein and mineral nutrients. Echinacea and ribwort promote natural defences and strengthen the immune system. The high crude fibre content promotes optimal digestions and boosts health.
Feeding instructions: Mixed with hay or as a supplement to the daily hay ration.

My take? Definitely better than the Nature 7-day. The concept is similar, just that this pack is solely herbs. It’s 110g and cost $5.89 before discount. :D

Vitakraft Vit@Verde Nature 7-days

October 28, 2008 at 9:41 pm (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review) (, )

A few people have been nudging me to blog more about rabbit stuff… so here I am. :D

Here’s something that probably came out in SG around August or September 2008. It’s a hay mixture by Vitakraft.

Here’s what it looks like unwrapped

Here’s what the back of the box looks like.

Anyway, it’s tough to see what’s exactly written on that paper (and in so many languages too) so I shall just type it out.

In the package, it includes:
1 bale of hay with 5% stinging nettles
1 bale of hay with 5% dandelion and 5% marigold
1 bale of hay with 3% peppermint
1 bale of hay with 3% rose petals
1 bale of hay with 5% camomile.
Green Oat (27% fibre)
Dried Pea Plant (21.5% protein, 21% fibre)
Nature Cup with dried carrots
Kracker Dandelion (made up of: cereals, vegetables [10% carrot], dandelion herb [3.5%], derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals, nuts and honey. Supplemented vitamins/kg: 5770 U.I. vitamin A, 570 U.I. vitamin D3, 50mg vitamin E, with preservatives: EC-approved additives.)
1 bunch of apple sticks/twigs

The price is around $18-$19. Kinda expensive for hay and a little herbs. One could be better off just getting oxbow botanical hay or just buy dried herbs (suitable/safe for rabbits) and mix with Timothy Hay/Oat Hay.

It could be nice as a one time treat though but not something you’d like to get weekly. Could easily burn a hole in your pocket.

Marukan Nature Grass

September 16, 2008 at 9:49 am (Diet, Nutrition & Supplements, Product Review) ()

Nature Grass by Marukan isn’t exactly grass or the hay type of grass. It’s similar to dried herbs in the form of grass.

What does the dried herbs do and how do they help?

Dandelion (MR-364) – In line with Chinese medicine, the dandelion herbs helps to keep the stomach healthy and is very effective in cleansing the bloodstream.

Plantain Leaf (MR-365) – A medicinal herb with abundance of vitamins helps keep the rabbit’s stomach healthy and helps with diuresis (Diuresis is the increased production of urine by the kidney).

Horsetail (MR-366) – Works effectively in promotion of kidney function that causes diuresis and helps to keep cool (as in, not heaty in terms of chinese medicine). Also effective in helping with skin disease.

Mulberry Tree (MR-367) – The “moranorin” (sorry, its a Japanese medical/herbal term that I’m unable to effectively translate) helps control the rise of blood glucose values. Mulberry tree also has abundance of mineral dietary fibre that helps with integral intestinal action.

Radish Leaf (MR-368) – There are various vitamins and dietary fibre in the radish leaf, including beta carotin which is optimum to maintainence of the health of the eyes, skin and stomach.

Carrot Leaf (MR-369) – Has two times the amount of vitamin Cthan that of the root. Also has beta carotine, dietary fibre and is effective in the maintainence of the health of the eyes, skin and stomach.

Watercress (MR-370) – Has abundance of various vitamins and beta carotine that helps with diuresis in addition to helping with fatigue and appetite.
